Extended Care Housing

What is Extended Care/Sober Living?

One of the most challenging prospects of leaving inpatient residential treatment is the adjustment to being sober at home. For many in recovery, being home alone or with others who may not be sober can trigger substance use. Extended Care housing or sober living is an excellent interim alternative.

Typically, sober living homes are supplemental to extending the continuum of care by providing an additional steppingstone to living sober in the “real world”. Sober living homes are a transitional measure, giving the alcoholic or addict in recovery a little more time and breathing room. At Orchard, our Extended Care homes help residents learn to live with others who share the common goal of recovery and hold each other accountable. Life in an Extended Care home includes quiet hours, group processing, and bonding. Residents living in Orchard’s Extended Care homes must maintain and work on their sobriety.
